I received my bachelor's degree in Film and Mass Communications from UC Berkeley. At NYU Tisch School of Arts, Grad Film, I studied under Spike Lee and Kenneth Lonergan. My first jobs were as a cameraman (Forbes), an editor (The Feedroom), and field producer (Ironbound Films).
Once in Los Angeles, I edited the Feature Documentary "Brown is the New Green," then worked in network television at Telemundo, NBC, KWHY, GSN, ABC and Studio City making promos and local commercials. Working at Studio City I wrote copy, produced, directed, shot, and edited hundreds of spots ranging from topical news, giveaways, large branding campaigns, local business commercials, national commercials, promos for large sports events such as the Olympics, and shows like Glee, Heroes, Live with Kelly, Entertainment Tonight, The View, $100,000 Pyramid, The Talk, and The Dating Game just to name a few. I also continued working on film projects, including a feature re-edit for the film "Sharon 1,2,3" starring Matt Bush, Erin Hayes, Nadine Velasquez.
Shortly after, I started my own production company, Punching Robot, working with clients such as UCLA, Herbalife, Shaklee, and handling production and editing needs for other agencies like Squadron and ToyRobot Media, producing content for NBC, Xfinity, Pixar, John Deere, Genesis, Youtube and Hasbro across North America.
When I am not working in production, I am writing TV and Feature scripts specializing in comedy, some of which I have successfully sold.
Father of 3. Husband to 1. Brother to 4. Son of immigrant parents. Bilingual.
As a kid I used to ride around on my Big Wheel trying to come up with commercials. In 4th grade I shot my first short film using my dad's 8mm camera, and synced the sound using a boom box. In 9th grade I casted my entire English class and made a video book report of Tale of Two Cities, where a car ran over my sister's favorite baby doll. Needless to say she was not happy.
Later, I hung out with hippies and learned to protest at UC Berkeley, where I received the Eisner Award for my film, “Maris” - a five year retrospective of how my family dealt with my sister's death from cancer.
I was invited to the NYU Graduate Film Program on a Dean’s Fellowship. While there, in between the late nights, bars, and dance clubs, I managed to make other films, receiving a regional Student Academy Award for ”The Playroom,” a Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker's Award for ”Must Be Love,” a nomination for the DGA's Best Latino Student Director, and a Sloan Foundation Production Grant for my thesis film “6ft. in 7min.” which screened at 47 film festivals worldwide, and won 14 awards, including Best Film and Best Director.
In 2005 I packed my bags and wife (really, she came willingly) and moved back to Los Angeles. I took several meetings that lead to absolutely nothing. Eventually I sold my first pilot “Eat, Sleep, Gas” to NBC Studios in 2008, and in 2019 my first feature script, Santa Con, to Luminary Visions.
Here's a short list of some other ways I've been causing trouble:
